The Red Sox made two trades Friday afternoon just ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline.
One of them was sending Michael Chavis to the Pirates in exchange for left-handed reliever Austin Davis.
Chavis did not seem to have a role with the organization, making only 14 starts this season and hitting under .200. He was the Red Sox' first-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.
As for Davis, he's bounced back and forth between the Pirates and the minors. In 10 big league games, he has a 5.59 ERA over 9 2/3 innings. He will give the bullpen some lefty depth.
