A Major League Baseball spokesman confirmed to WEEI.com that the Red Sox would be allowed to wear their yellow and blue City Connect uniforms in the postseason.

The uniforms have been the garments of choice for the Red Sox throughout their last five wins at Fenway Park, which has been, of course, been part of the team's seven-game win streak.

While it was a forgone conclusion that the Red Sox were going to continue their choice of the alternative uniforms heading into the three-game set against the Yankees Friday, there was some questions regarding if such a decision would be an option in the postseason.

When asked on The Greg Hill Show if he had an answer to the question regarding whether or not MLB would allow the uniforms past the regular season, Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom said he didn't have an answer.

Appearing on Merloni and Fauria Wednesday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora explained how the uniform choice came about.

“We decided it was going to be for the Baltimore series,” Cora said. “Then on Monday, I texted Tommy [Goodwin] and said, ‘Tommy, we’re going yellow tomorrow?’ He’s like, ‘Let me talk to Sam [Kennedy]. Then I texted Bogie and said, ‘Yellow tomorrow.’ He said, ‘Of course we are.’ It’s one of those. That’s how it works.”

The Red Sox currently hold a two-game lead over the Yankees for the top spot in the American League Wild Card race, and 2 1/2 over the Blue Jays.
