Nick Pivetta comes up huge for the Red Sox

The Red Sox needed Nick Pivetta present the best version of himself Saturday, and that's exactly what the Red Sox' starter did.

Pivetta turned in one of his better outings of the season at Fenway Park, allowing just one run and three hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Yankees. He also struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

The only run charged to Pivetta came after he exited the game, with Hansel Robles' first pitch sailing wide of catcher Kevin Plawecki, allowing the Yankees to cut the Red Sox lead in half.

Robles would strand the second of the two runners left behind by Pivetta thanks to a pinpoint throw home by third baseman Rafael Devers on Aaron Judge's one-out grounder, nailing Brett Gardner at the plate.

Pivetta came into the outing carrying a 5.69 ERA at home, having gone at least five innings while allowing one or fewer runs at Fenway on just two other occasions.

The starter lived primarily with his fastball, throwing it on 61 percent of his offerings while topping out at 97.4 mph.
