Just a few months ago Nick Yorke was graduating from high school. Saturday afternoon he was singling against one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.
The 17th overall pick in this year's Major League Baseball Draft, who was just recently added to the Red Sox' 60-player pool, made a great first impression while seeing action in the simulated game at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.
In his first at-bat wearing a professional baseball uniform Yorke rifled a single the other way into right field against Bryan Mata. (Video courtesy the Pawtucket Red Sox.)
Yorke -- who also drew a walk in Saturday's game -- is an 18-year-old middle infielder who was taken by the Red Sox out of Archbishop Mitty (CA) High by the Red Sox. (For the complete story of how Yorke was identified by the Sox, click here.)
