Another pitching candidate has just been added to the Red Sox' major league spring training mix.
According to a major league source, 28-year-old right-hander Daniel Gossett has been signed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to compete for a job in big league camp.
Gossett has 28 major league appearances, all starts with Oakland. In 2017 he started 18 games for the A's, struggling with a 6.11 ERA. The following season the South Carolina native appeared five times and posted a 5.18 ERA before undergoing Tommy John surgery.
After missing all of the 2019 season, Gossett was designated for assignment by Oakland in July.
The good news is that Oakland's second-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft dominated during his Triple-A stint in 2018, posting a 1.63 ERA in seven appearances while pitching in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Gossett was originally a 16th-round pick by the Red Sox in the 2011 Draft before choosing to attend Clemson.
USA Today was first to report the signing.
