The Red Sox have added another high school player from California in the MLB Draft.
After selecting Marcelo Mayer in Round 1, the organization selected Daniel McElveny out of Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista, California in Round 6.
McElveny was announced as a utility player and has experience at shortstop as well as in the outfield. In 119 plate appearances this season, he hit .435 to go along with a .580 OBP and five home runs.
He's committed to San Diego State, so the Red Sox will need to get him to sign over attending the school.
The right-handed hitter has shown the ability to hit for power in the future and has also shown off his strong arm both in the infield and outfield. Both these skills will likely only get better in time.
Here are two videos showing his power and arm.
