YRFI bets cashed in 45 of the Boston Red Sox 81 home games last season. Their offense was responsible for 35 of those wins.
YRFI (yes runs first inning) and NRFI odds (no runs first inning) have risen in popularity in MLB betting in recent years. At BetMGM, it’s typically the fourth-most popular bet for any single game, behind only moneylines, run lines, and over/under totals.
The bet is simple: If either team scores at least one first-inning run, YRFI bets cash. If neither team scores a first-inning run, NRFI bets cash. A push is not possible.
In Red Sox games at Fenway Park last year, at least one run was scored 45 times. Boston’s offense did the scoring 35 times, while Boston’s pitching staff allowed the scoring only 20 times. Only the Atlanta Braves’ offense was responsible for more YRFI wins (40).
The Red Sox offensive YRFI dominance was largely due to a 60% increase in first-inning runs. They averaged 0.69 runs — seventh-best in baseball — after averaging 0.43 in 2022 — eighth-worst in baseball.
