The 34-year-old starter has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, which started as an undrafted free agent in the Angels organization. After signing with Toronto prior to the 2019 season Shoemaker posted a 1.57 ERA in five starts before tearing his ACL while engaging in a rundown.
In five of his six outings in 2020 the righty allowed three runs or less, striking out 26 in 28 2/3 innings.
Shoemaker pitched under a one-year, $4.2 million contract with the Blue Jays in 2020.
