Pap cuts loose

Heading into the trade deadline, the Red Sox appear to be firmly in a position to deal off some of their veteran players in exchange for prospects. The latest loss - a 9-4 defeat at the hands of the Brewers Sunday, putting the Sox 4 1/2 games out of the Wild Card - would seem to cement that.
So now come the possible names who would become more of the Red Sox future than their present.
Meet Mark Vientos.
According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Red Sox are interested in the Mets third base prospect in a deal that could include J.D. Martinez and/or Christian Vazquez.
The 22-year-old Vientos is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Mets' fifth-best prospect, currently playing third base for Triple-A Syracuse.
A second-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, Vientos currently owns 19 homers and an .864 OPS in 270 at-bats. Standing at 6-foot-4, the former American Heritage (FL) High star was reportedly on the Red Sox' radar back when talking with the Mets about a Vazquez deal in 2020.
