Red Sox reportedly signing 2-time All-Star Justin Turner

The Red Sox added a veteran bat to their lineup on Sunday, reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal with Justin Turner.

ESPN's Joon Lee and Jeff Passan were first to report the deal, which Passan says is worth just shy of $22 million and includes an opt-out after the first year. Lee adds that Turner, who has spent the vast majority of his career at third base, is expected to spend most of his time at designated hitter and first base in Boston.

The 38-year-old Turner has spent the last nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He won a World Series with them in 2020, earned NLCS MVP honors in 2017, and was named an All-Star in 2017 and 2021.

This past season, Turner hit .278 with 13 home runs, 81 RBIs, 61 runs scored and a .788 OPS in 128 games.

The move comes in the wake of the Red Sox losing shortstop Xander Bogaerts and designated hitter J.D. Martinez in free agency and designating first baseman Eric Hosmer for assignment.
