According to a major league source, the Red Sox are optioning Ryan Brasier to Triple-A Worcester to make room on the active roster for Friday's starter Michael Wacha.
Brasier has totaled a 6.28 ERA in 18 appearance, with opponents carrying a .982 OPS against him. The righty most recently closed out the Sox' Thursday night win over the Mariners, allowing one home run in his only inning.
The 34-year-old Brasier has allowed eight of his 11 inherited runners to score, with his opponents' exit velocity and hard-hit rate coming in at the bottom one percent of big league pitchers.
Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe was first with the news of Brasier's demotion.
