The Red Sox reportedly are adding an intriguing bullpen arm ... for 2025.

As was first reported by Mike Mayer, the Sox have agreed to terms with former first-round pick Michael Fulmer on a minor-league deal. The 30-year-old is expected to miss all of 2024 after undergoing revision UCL surgery on his right pitching elbow.

Fulmer, who was named the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year as a starter for Detroit, is coming off a solid season with the Cubs. He totaled a 4.42 ERA in 58 outings in Chicago, a year after standing out for both the Tigers and Twins with combined 3.39 ERA in 67 appearances.

Fulmer was a first-round pick of Detroit in 2011 (44th overall), taken one spot in front of current Red Sox Trevor Story and four slots in back or former Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr.

In 2023, Fulmer was particularly effective against right-handed hitters, holding them to a .208 batting average and .640 OPS.
