Diekman, 35, has a 5-1 record and 4.23 ERA in 44 games (38.1 innings) for Boston this season. He has one year left on his contract after this season.

McGuire, 27, has played 53 games for Chicago this season, slashing .225/.261/.285 for a .546 OPS with zero home runs and 10 RBIs. He offers some catching depth following the Vazquez trade. McGuire is on a one-year deal, but is arbitration-eligible for three more seasons.

In Feb. 2020, McGuire pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct following an incident in Dunedin, Florida, where police officers responded to a call and reportedly found him masturbating in his SUV in a parking lot. He was fined $500.
