Don’t allow anyone to tell you the Red Sox aren't interesting. They were the most googled pro sports team in 2021.

That’s right: the Red Sox led the ubiquitous search engine’s annual list, beating LeBron’s Lakers and the NBA champion Bucks. The full list, which was compiled by Mark J. Burns of Sports Business Journal, is below:

1. Boston Red Sox
2. Los Angeles Lakers
3. Milwaukee Bucks
4. Phoenix Suns
5. Atlanta Braves
6. Los Angeles Clippers
7. Los Angeles Dodgers
8. Houston Astros
9. Brooklyn Nets
10. Atlanta Hawks

Interestingly, there aren’t NFL teams listed, which might speak to the league’s universality. It isn’t surprising to see six NBA clubs on the list. The NBA continually leads all pro sports leagues in social media engagement.

Still, the Red Sox topped them all. Their ALCS run arguably generated more excitement around the city than their 2018 championship season. Ratings on NESN were up 74% in the coveted 25-to-54-year-old demo.

The Red Sox are riding momentum heading into the holiday season. Too bad they opened their stockings and got a lockout.
