A week ago, Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer revealed that while first base coach Tom Goodwin would not be returning for the 2022 season, the team's hope was to retain the services of the remaining coaches on Alex Cora's staff.

It appears the Red Sox will be able to, indeed, keep all of the group with one exception: Tim Hyers.

According to a team source, the hitting coach, who has served in the position with the Red Sox since 2018, declined the opportunity to return and will seek other opportunities.

During Hyers' tenure, the Red Sox offense proved to be one of the most potent in baseball. Over the course of the four seasons, the team carried the best combined batting average and OPS in the majors, while managing more total bases and extra-base hits of any team.

The Red Sox' 2021 lineup finished with the third-best OPS and batting average in MLB.

Assistant hitting coach Peter Fatse is expected to take over for Hyers.

Alex Speier was first to report the news of Hyers' decision. Stephen Hewitt was first with the Fatse news.
