After starting the regular season 1-4, fans and media alike in Boston were quick to start worrying about the 2025 Red Sox.
Garrett Crochet’s first start was average at best.
Alex Bregman has not set the world on fire.
Their best hitter was somehow Wilyer Abreu.
2025 was already starting to feel like the second half of 2024, and the club hadn’t even played a single game at Fenway Park.
But after the built-in off-day on Tuesday after Baltimore’s opening day festivities on Monday, Boston was able to regroup.
Wednesday brought us a dominant performance from Crochet, as he went a career-high 8 innings, throwing 8 strikeouts in a 3-0 Red Sox win over the Orioles. Not only did the ace show up in a big way, but Devers snapped out of his 0-19 start to the season with 2 hits and 1 RBI in the win.
On Thursday afternoon, the momentum from Wednesday night carried over, as the Red Sox offense had their best performance of the year in a 8-4 victory at Camden Yards.
With the win, the Red Sox (3-4) take two out of three down in Baltimore (3-4), securing their first series win of the 2025 season.

In addition to another hit for Devers, who went 1-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored, Wednesday also featured Bregman’s best day at the dish, going 3-5 with a 2-run home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
We also saw signs of life from first baseman Triston Casas, who had also struggled to hit to start the season. Casas was 2-5 on the day with a 2-run homer of his own.
Three combined hits from Devers and Casas on Wednesday bring their batting averages up to .111 and .154, respectively.
Baby steps for Boston’s pair of power hitters, but progress nonetheless as the team gets ready for their first home series of the year this weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals, who are off to a surprising 4-2 start.
Opening Day ceremonies at Fenway Park will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET, with first pitch slated for 2:10. Walker Buehler (0-1) will take the mound for Boston with Erick Fedde (1-0) on the bump for St. Louis.
