Jarren Duran's MLB debut will have to wait. Thursday night's Red Sox-Yankees series-opener in the Bronx has been postponed due to a COVID-19 issue with the Yankees. Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the news.
Buster Olney reports that there have been multiple positive tests on the Yankees.
Reports had emerged a short time earlier that the Yankees had canceled pregame batting practice as they worked through a testing issue and health and safety protocols.
"Following positive COVID-19 tests within the New York Yankees organization, tonight’s game between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium has been postponed to allow for continued testing and contact tracing," MLB said in a statement.
Red Sox-Yankees was the only game on the MLB schedule Thursday night, as every other team resumes play on Friday.
The news kills what was set to be an exciting night for the Red Sox, as Jarren Duran, widely considered one of the team's top two or three prospects, was set to make his MLB debut. He was announced as hitting seventh and starting in center field.
Rafael Devers just told me that he was asked to not do interviews pregame because one of the #Yankees who went to the All-Star Game tested positive. Devers said that he is going to undergo testing this afternoon.
