Report: Fenway Sports Group selling Penguins to Chicago-based family firm

According to a report, the owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins are selling the franchise to the Hoffmann family, based in Chicago.

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli says an investment group led by David Hoffman has “reached an agreement” to buy the Penguins from the Fenway Sports Group.

FSG purchased controlling interest of the Penguins in 2021 for $900 million.

The Penguins were previously owned by Penguins legend Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle.

Talking on the Pomp and Joe Show, Bob Pompeani is hopeful that that ownership change could mark the return of legend Mario Lemieux is some capacity.

FSG also owns the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park, Liverpool soccer, NESN and more.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies, currently owns the ECHL’s Florida Everblades franchise.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies owns and/or has investments in media & marketing, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, transportation, agriculture and more.

Seravalli adds an official announcement is expected in the coming days.
