Derek Jeter stunned the baseball world on Monday when he announced he was leaving the Miami Marlins organization and stepping down as CEO.
The Hall of Fame shortstop had been with the Marlins since 2017 when he was a part of Bruce Sherman’s ownership group that bought the team.

While Jeter had just a 4% stake in the organization, he was chief executive officer and oversaw day-to-day operations.
Jeter’s influence within the organization was certainly significant over the years, which is why the news on Monday came as such a shock as it appeared that he had carved out a post-retirement career with the Marlins.
After the initial surprise settled in, many on social media wondered what Jeter’s next move could be, particularly Yankee fans hoping to see him in the Bronx again.
Others, of course, had jokes about Jeter’s tenure and future, with plenty of gift basket references as well.
Others just wanted the Marlins home run sculpture back in the outfield, which Jeter had gotten the approval to remove during his tenure.
