Rich Hill says he is ready to pitch right now

BALTIMORE - Rich Hill and the Red Sox appear ready for another reunion.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Hill and the Sox are close to an agreement on a minor-league deal for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The 44-year-old participated in a showcase for three teams at Champion Physical Therapy and Performance in Waltham last Friday, throwing over 100 pitches in the indoor facility. The Red Sox were one of the teams in attendance.

While Hill did receive three offers for major-league deals this past offseason, the lefty chose to spend the first half of the season coaching his 12-year-old son Brice's youth baseball team in Milton. His plan all along was to attempt to hook on with a team for the final few months.

Hill made 27 total starts between Pittsburgh and San Diego last season, finishing with a 5.41 ERA over 146 1/3 innings. His best run came with the Pirates, who dealt the veteran at the trade deadline after managing a 4.76 ERA in 22 starts.

It would mark Hill's fourth stint with the Red Sox with his 22 starts in 2022 serving as his most recent stop. He also played in Boston from 2010-12 and 2015.
