Tanner Houck shines in return to mound

WORCESTER -- The Red Sox didn't need to play Thursday night in order to get some really good news.

Returning to the mound for the first time since suffering a flexor strain in right pitching arm, Tanner Houck dominated in his outing with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.

Houck threw 45 pitches (26 strikes) against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Polar Park, going three innings. The righty didn't allow a hit or run while striking out six and walking one batter.

Houck, whose fastball sat at 94-95 mph, hadn't pitched in a game since a May 4 outing for the WooSox.
