This is what we know about the Red Sox' interest in Seiya Suzuki. According to one source, they have scouted the 27-year-old outfielder "thoroughly."
After that ... it's worth paying attention to.
According to MLB.com, Suzuki is planning on going through the posting process after what has been a standout season with the Hiroshima Carp (1.079 OPS, 38 home runs in 131 games). That will begin at the end of the Japan Series later this month, with all interested clubs getting 30 days to negotiate a contract.
Once in the free-agent market, the right-handed-hitting Suzuki will automatically be one of the more sought-after outfielders, joining the likes of Kris Bryant, Nick Castellanos and Starling Marte.
(MLB Trade Rumors projects Suzuki receiving a five-year, $55 million contract.)
The potential fit with the Red Sox would likely come in right field, where NPB has won our Gold Gloves. The club could view the spot occupied by Hunter Renfroe - whose contract jumps up to $7.5 million in 2022 - as a place it wants to potentially upgrade.
