The soon-to-be free agent pitcher sent out a tantalizing tweet for Red Sox fans to digest, suggesting an interest in talking with Boston about his next contract.
But before Red Sox followers start to truly get riled up about Bauer being tied to Boston they should understand the rules of engagement: The Sox -- or any other team outside of the Reds who want to court Bauer -- can't start the process until five days after the completion of the World Series.
The Red Sox can't even be considered separate from other clubs when it comes to Bauer's potential future affection with the pitcher even opening the door to joining his biggest rival -- the Houston Astros.
The 29-year-old Bauer excelled in his free-agent year, totaling a 1.73 ERA over appearances, striking out 100 in just 73 innings.
