Triston Casas is doing his best to force the major league conversation.
For that, he can thank what is likely has been the most important developmental year of his career. It was a 2021 that he has finally finished, doing in style
The 21-year-old (he will be 22 on Jan. 15) just finished an Arizona Fall League stint in which he hit .372 (5th) with .982 OPS and AF-best .495 on-base percentage. There were also 17 walks and 18 strikeouts and a home run in 96 plate appearances.
For the entirety of the year, Casas totaled an estimated 521 plate appearances between official Grapefruit League action, his stints with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, the Olympic experiences (both in the qualifying rounds and the five-ringed event) and, finally, the stint with Scottsdale.
Casas was the Red Sox' first overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft.
