Triston Casas latest Red Sox casualty, heads to injured list

The hits just keep on coming the Red Sox, and not in a good way.

The team announced Sunday morning that Triston Casas is the latest player heading to the injured list, having to miss time due to a left rib strain. It's an ailment he suffered while swinging Saturday, forcing the first baseman from the Sox' win after just one at-bat.

Casas is second on the Red Sox in home runs (6), owning a .244 batting and .857 OPS while playing in all 22 of the Sox' games.

Taking Casas' place on the Red Sox' active roster is catcher Tyler Heineman, who has played in nine games with Triple-A Worcester this season, going 7-for-27. The 32-year-old was the only healthy position player remaining on the 40-man roster who hadn't been summoned to the big leagues.

Heineman - who is known throughout baseball for his ability to perform magic - played in 22 major league games last season with both Pittsburgh and Toronto. In all, he has appeared in 102 big league games with four different organizations.

The Casas injury is the latest in a long line of potentially impactful roadblocks for what is currently a 12-10 Red Sox team. Although the plan is to get both Rafael Devers (knee) and Tyler O'Neill (concussion) back Tuesday, the Sox are still without shortstop Trevor Story for the season. It leaves Alex Cora's club without its four most impactful bats for the time being.
