Wednesday was a day to remember when it came to the stars of tomorrow and momentous home runs.

On the major league level, baseball was abuzz about the game's top prospect - the Reds' Elly De La Cruz - hitting his first big-league homer in his second big-league game. And making the moment even more memorable was the manner the shortstop executed the task, sending it 458 feet at an exit velocity of 114.8 mph.

And just for good measure, De La Cruz added this triple and run around hte bases ...

Then there was Marcelo Mayer's blast.

The top Red Sox prospect - who was born 11 months after De La Cruz - continued to make his own mark, claiming his first Double-A homer.

Since joining the Sea Dogs, Mayer is 5-for-27 with nine strikeouts and three walks.
