You can never have enough starting pitching. So with that in mind ...
Who says no to this Red Sox trade with this Rangers?
Red Sox get: SP Kyle Gibson.
Rangers get: SP Tanner Houck.
If Gibson, who has been simply dominant (6-0, 1.98 ERA) for the 33-52 Rangers, was on the last year of his contract we would immediately pass on this one. But he's not. The 33-year-old is in the second year of a three-year, $28 million deal and is due to make $7 million in 2022.
Considering Houck's success during his brief experience in the major leagues, it is easy to simply suggest the righty will be a foundation piece for the Red Sox and they should ride that. Six earned runs in 27 innings is pretty good.
But the Red Sox might still feel like they need a no-doubt-about-it starter heading into the postseason. This version of Gibson would be that guy.
