The Red Sox dropped to 6-17 in one-run games Tuesday night, suffering a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels in 10 innings. Manager Alex Cora was clearly frustrated after the game and seemed to be at a loss for words when it comes to his team repeating mistakes, including three more errors to add to Boston’s league-leading total.
“We keep making the same mistakes. We’re not getting better,” Cora said. “At one point it has to be on me, I guess, right? I’m the manager. I got to keep pushing them to get better. They’re not getting better. They’re not. We keep making the same mistakes, same mistakes. I’m being very honest about it, very open about it. You get frustrated but at one point, it’s like, OK, what are we going to do? What’s going to change? Because we keep doing the same thing, same thing. We can keep talking about one-run losses. We have what, 17, 18? It’s the same thing. Is it effort? Preparation? Attention to detail? I have no idea, man. I watched that game and was like, ‘Wow, this is real.’ It’s frustrating.”
The Greg Hill Show reacted to the Red Sox’ struggles and Cora’s comments Wednesday morning, and Jermaine Wiggins had a bold prediction. Listen to the full segment above.
“Cora will be gone by All-Star break,” Wiggy said.
“He probably will be gone,” Wiggy continued. “They're going to continue to play like this. They might be double digits [back] when it comes to a wild card spot. And I don't think if you're the front office, Breslow and those guys, I think it's time to pull the band-aid off. What's 14 million or whatever you owe him?”
Courtney Cox hated Cora’s postgame comments.
“That's terrible,” she said. “It's the worst that he could have said.”
“It feels like he wants to be gone,” Chris Curtis added.
“It sounds like he’s fatigued dealing with these guys,” Greg Hill said.
The Red Sox will try to avoid getting swept Wednesday afternoon when they host the Angels for a 1:35 p.m. first pitch. Next up is a weekend series in the Bronx against the Yankees, who are now 10 games ahead of Boston.
