Apparently, Alex Verdugo getting beaned with a baseball wasn’t the only example of unhinged fan behavior at Yankee Stadium over the weekend.
A fan spit on Jason Variek’s nine-year-old daughter, according to Catherine Variek.
“What our kids just went through walking to our car in Yankee Stadium was scary,” she tweeted Saturday night following New York’s 3-1 win. “I am not talking about ‘Curse Words’ Someone SPIT on my 9 year old daughter for wearing her Varitek jersey.”
The Yankees have not issued further clarification of Catherine Variek’s allegation. On Saturday, a fan was banned for life from all MLB parks for throwing a ball at Verdugo.
“Once you throw shit back at players, you’re crossing the line,” Verdugo told reporters afterwards. “And my personal feelings of that is the line was crossed. I just wasn’t going to sit there and stand for it.”
The Yankees took two of three games from the Red Sox over the weekend.
