The 2020 NFL season hasn't been the smoothest ride for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, and that trend continued in Houston's loss to Cincinnati in Week 16.
Though his individual performance was strong as usual — he finished with 324 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with 38 yards on the ground — a fumble at the end of the game was accompanied by a brutal-looking injury.
Though an official diagnosis has not been announced, the prevailing thought following the game was that the injury was a serious one. Texans reporter John McClain tweeted his thoughts after the game, saying that the team should rest their franchise centerpiece in Week 17.
Former NFL team doctor David J. Chao also tweeted that there is "significant worry for his throwing elbow" based on the appearance of the play.
In the postgame presser, coach Romeo Crennel said that the team doctors didn't think it was anything too serious but that it's too early to say for sure at this point.
Romeo Crennel on Deshaun Watson's injury: "He was able to come back, he felt good about it. The doctors didn't think anything major was an issue, they'll check him out of course and do scans ... and then we'll know more about what the deal is tomorrow or the next day." pic.twitter.com/xsAutdY2gN
