Chapman Calls Report That He Will Definitely Opt Out 'Completely False'

Aroldis Chapman has been enjoying a great 2019 campaign, as his 25 saves is currently tied for the American League lead.

While the 31-year-old has two years remaining on his deal, he can opt out after this season in order to become a free agent.

An earlier report by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic stated Chapman is "one million percent" going to opt out of his contract at the end of the season.

However, according to the man himself, Yankees fans shouldn't get rid of their Chapman jerseys quite yet.

Speaking to the media Wednesday, Chapman called the report that he will definitely opt out of the final two years of his deal "completely false."

The 6-foot-4 right-hander said he will wait until after the season to discuss his contract situation with his agent, and added that he is happy with his contract and happy playing in the Bronx.

The closer has two years and $34.4 million left on the five-year, $86 million deal he signed back in 2017, both of which are player options.

Chapman, who will pitch at 32-years-old next season, was named to his sixth All-Star team this year after a strong first half.

He is 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.118 WHIP in 36.2 innings in 2019, racking up 53 strikeouts with only 12 walks.

Chapman's 25 saves is tied for second in all of MLB, trailing only San Diego's Kirby Yates (30).
