It's been a while since we've heard his name, but it finally sounds like Brandon Nimmo is on the right path towards returning from a bulging disc.
Nimmo has resumed swinging a bat this week following a 30-day shutdown from all baseball activities, according to a report from MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
Although his shutdown has ended, the Mets don't believe Nimmo is likely to begin a rehab assignment until next month.
The 26-year-old outfielder has struggled at the plate this season. In 130 at-bats, Nimmo is hitting .200/.344/.323 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
Nimmo suffered the injury on April 14, but initially tried playing through the pain.
The outfielder then flew to Los Angeles for a meeting with spinal expert Dr. Robert Watkins, who gave Nimmo a second epidural injection in his neck and advised the outfielder to completely stop all baseball activities for 30 days.
Appearing in a career-high 140 games last season, the 26-year-old hit .263/.404/.483 with 17 home runs, 28 doubles and 43 RBIs.
