The "You Gotta Believe" crowd is not getting through to Chris Carlin.

The co-host of WFAN's "Carlin, Maggie and Bart" show said Friday he is so sure the Mets won't make the playoffs this season that he'll get a tattoo of a polar bear if he's proven wrong.

"They're not good enough," he said. "It's that simple. The Mets are not good enough.

"If the Mets make the playoffs, I will get a polar bear tattoo. That's how confident I am."

Polar Bear, of course, is Mets rookie slugger Pete Alonso's nickname.

As for the details about the potential tattoo, Carlin only said it "will not be tiny." He said he'd figure out the rest if he lost the bet.

Wild card counts -- a Game 163 to get to the Wild Card -- does not. I have no other tattoos. Size will be medium. Spot yet to be determined. Size/spot subject to spousal approval. There will not, under any circumstances, be a tramp stamp. https://t.co/4Mffx5nZcV

"My wife's going to love this!" he joked.

Not that long ago, the Mets were 11 games under .500 and owned the National League's second-worst record. But they then won 15 out of 16 games to pull to within a half-game of a wild-card spot.

The Mets have cooled off some, dropping three of their last four, but they're still only two games behind the Cubs for the National League's second wild-card spot entering Friday night.
