The Mets opened the season in impressive fashion, shutting out the Nationals, 2-0. In their last 50 Opening Day games, the Mets are 38-12. With a very impressive offseason, many people expect the Mets to be in the playoff conversation this year.
Former Mets outfielder and MLB Network analyst Cliff Floyd knows a thing or two about making the playoffs in a Mets uniform. Floyd joined WFAN's Joe & Evan Friday to talk about the improved Mets team, which he believes will have quite the 2019 season.
"I told you the Mets are going to get 94 wins," Floyd told Joe & Evan. "I felt like those dudes that they signed...I said if the pitching holds up, Lowrie plays great. I'm just doing down the line...Wilson Ramos is good, I'm thinking 93, 94 wins. I said the Mets will win that division. I'm not trusting the Braves. I'm really not."
It all will end up coming down to health.
"I got the Mets winning the division. People, don't call me crazy," said Floyd. "If they stay healthy and get these guys back...you need these guys back in the lineup obviously. If we lose any pitcher, I'm taking off 10 wins and you ain't winning the division. If they lose Jason Vargas...you can replace him. No disrespect to Jay. Jay's my boy.
With Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto and all the other moves the Phillies made this offseason, shouldn't the Phillies be in that conversation?
"The thing with the Phillies is...I don't know. You have to prove to me that you can catch the ball better than you did last year," Floyd said. "Down the stretch...they couldn't catch a cold. They couldn't. I said this offseason, if you got Manny Machado, I'm sold. You got sure hands with Manny. Jean Segura can catch the ball. Rhys Hoskins is back at first base where he belongs. That in itself, I'm good."
