By WFAN.com

Say it ain't so, D'Angelo.

Brooklyn Nets All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell was cited for marijuana possession Wednesday night at LaGuardia Airport, according to multiple reports.

Russell was preparing to fly to Louisville, Kentucky, his hometown, when he was questioned by police after a routine search of his checked bag revealed a small amount of marijuana.

USA Today Sports broke the news Thursday afternoon.

The point guard was issued a summons for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana before being released, according to Newsday.

"We have been made aware of the situation involving D'Angelo Russell and are in the process of gathering more information at this time," the Nets said in a statement.

Russell is set to become a restricted free agent this summer after being named an All-Star for the first time in his four-year career. The point guard averaged 21.1 points, 7.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 36.9% from the three-point line.

Russell's roster slot has a salary cap hold of $21.1 million. Brooklyn could increase its cap space from around $30 million to over $50 million by renouncing the point guard's rights.
