On almost any other sports website in the world, the headline for this story would be about Islanders forward Matt Martin and his wife, Sydney, welcoming their first child into the world.

But this is our world, and Sydney is the daughter of our own Boomer Esiason, so we say, congratulations, grandpa Booms!

No matter how you frame the headline, Matt and Sydney Esiason Martin welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Windsor Grace, into the world on July 14, 2020. The Islanders themselves were the first to spread the good news, Tweeting a picture of baby Windsor late Wednesday afternoon, with Sydney checking in with a Tweet of her own shortly thereafter.

Boomer Esiason announced late last week that he would be off from the Boomer & Gio Show this week, and speculation of the baby's arrival coming soon ramped up when Matt Martin was absent from Islanders camp Tuesday because of a situation head coach Barry Trotz could only term “personal business that is all positive.”

The chosen name may also have some extra special significance for the new dad, whose hometown is Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Congratulations to the new parents and grandpa Boomer, and welcome to the world, Windsor Grace!
