The Jets have added some more running back depth. They have signed RB Charcandrick West to a deal, eight days before roster cutdowns. West was cut by the Chiefs on Wednesday. That was as short of an unemployment period as you are going to get.

West became the Chiefs' starting running back in 2015 after arriving as an undrafted rookie in 2014. West saw less playing time in 2016 and barely played last season, only carrying the ball 18 times all year. It doesn't come as a huge surprise that the Chiefs decided to cut him.

The 27-year-old showed some explosiveness on the ground and as a receiving back in 2015 and the Jets hope he can return to promise and add to their backfield. They already have Bilal Powell, Isaiah Crowell, and Thomas Rawls.

There is the chance he is only here briefly, but he gives them just another option at a position where injuries occur often. He's got a shot to make the team if he can pick up the playbook quick and show them something in camp. He may only have the final preseason game against the Eagles next week to showcase himself in a game situation before the Jets opener against the Lions on September 10.
