The Mets didn't announce any plans to say goodbye to Jose Reyes, but it was clear Sunday was his last time in a Mets uniform.
Reyes started at shortstop Sunday in the season finale. He grounded out in the bottom of the 1st inning and then was pulled in the top of the 2nd inning, replaced by Amed Rosario. He came off the field to cheers and a nice ovation from the Citi Field faithful.
After the fans said goodbye to their captain David Wright Saturday, Reyes got his chance for an ovation Sunday after spending 12 years with the Mets.
"I know today's going to be my last day with this team so, I have to be honest," Reyes said before the game. "Right now, I don't know how it's going to be out there, but I'm going to enjoy it and play."
Reyes had the worst season of his career, hitting just .189 with four homers and 16 RBI. Thanks to his success in his first tenure with the team, Reyes was one of the fan favorites.
"In the ups and downs, they had my back. I know this season was the worst season in my career and they support me a lot and I appreciate that from the fans and for all of the love that they show me."
