Are Dodgers Stealing Signs? Some On Mets Are Wondering.

Judging by the big hacks the Dodgers have been taking at the plate this week, some on the Mets think Los Angeles might be stealing signs.

The Post's Kevin Kernan reported Wednesday night that some Mets believe the huge swings with few misses suggest Dodgers hitters know what's coming. The Mets, however, aren't ruling out that the Dodgers are so well prepared that they know the sequencing patterns of pitchers and arm slots.

"I think they have a system that helps them get some signs and stuff,'' Mets bench coach Jim Riggleman told the Post. "I don't think it's anything illegal, but I think they just do a good job of picking up things."

The Dodgers were also accused of stealing signs by the Boston Red Sox during last year's World Series and by the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series.

Sign-stealing is not illegal as long as a team does not use electronic devices or binoculars to help them do it.

The Mets have given up seven homers in the first three games of the four-game series against LA. Their only win so far came with Steven Matz on the mound, and he said he wasn't following along a sequence.

"I just think they were really aggressive,'' Matz said of the Dodgers. "(Catcher) Wilson (Ramos) had a great game plan. I don't think I shook him off one time. I was changing speeds and kind of pitching backwards."
