The Devils sold off another piece in their lost season Saturday, dealing defenseman Ben Lovejoy to the Dallas Stars.
New Jersey acquired 24-year-old defenseman Connor Carrick and a 2019 third-round draft pick in the deal.
Lovejoy, 35, spent the past two-plus seasons with the Devils after signing as a free agent in July 2016. In 51 games this season, he had two goals, five assists and a plus-1 rating.
"Ben was a consummate professional that our young players could look up to during his time here and fulfilled all of our expectations when he came to New Jersey," Devils general manager Ray Shero said in a statement. "He was integral to the growth of our team and an important part of our group that returned to the playoffs last season."

Lovejoy, who won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2016, is set to become a free agent after the season. The NHL's trade deadline is Monday.
Carrick was a fifth-round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2012. He played in 14 games for the Stars this season, registering one goal and three assists.
The Devils, in last place in the Eastern Conference, traded center Brian Boyle to Nashville earlier this month. Other players who could be on the move before Monday's trade deadline include forward Marcus Johansson and goalie Keith Kinkaid.
