Breshad Perriman showed flashes of his potential with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, but he believes his best is yet to come with the New York Jets.
Gang Green’s newest wide receiver was introduced via conference call on Friday and Perriman was beaming with optimism and confidence about what he can do in New York.
“I have no doubt in my mind that it’s definitely going to be a season to remember for me…production-wise,” he said, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I’m just really excited for the opportunities that I will get and [having] a bigger role.”
Perriman, 26, is coming off a career-best season of 36 catches for 645 yards and six touchdowns while with the top-ranked passing offense in Tampa Bay last season. Much of his production came in the final five games, catching 25 passes for 506 yards and five touchdowns.
“That was just a sneak peak of what’s to come this season and many other seasons…,” Perriman said. “That was just a tiny glimpse.”
The former 2016 first-round pick, who joins his fifth team for his sixth season, managed to turn that into a one-year, $8 million deal with the Jets last week after Gang Green lost top wide receiver Robby Anderson to free agency, signing with the Carolina Panthers.
Perriman joins a Jets receiving corps that is lacking not just due to the loss of Anderson, but also has uncertainty surrounding the future of Quincy Enunwa, who is recovering from a neck injury.
While Perriman could play opposite Jamison Crowder, the Jets are expected to take a wide receiver in this years draft and could have the likes of one of the top-rate pass-catchers in Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb or Henry Ruggs III at their disposal with the 11th pick.
Still, Perriman knows his strengths and believes he will play a big role.
“I bring a lot of speed and a lot of big playmaking ability,” he said. “…I’m really eager to get to work and prove to the ones that have any doubt in their mind wrong.”
