DeAndre Baker's legal issues could soon be over, according to his attorney.
The Giants defensive back's lawyer has reiterated he expects his client to be fully exonerated in an alleged armed robbery at a Miami party -- and said it could happen this week.
"I think we've got the case won, to be honest with you," Baker attorney Patrick G. Patel said on SNY on Wednesday. "I think it's only a matter of time."
Patel said prosecutors usually take around 30 days to proceed in criminal cases such as Baker's. The former first-round draft pick turned himself in on May 17, so that could mean a decision is coming in the next 10 or 12 days, he explained.
The attorney also said the case against his client is falling apart because witnesses have recanted their statements.
Baker turned himself in and was freed after posting a $200,000 bail. He remains away from the Giants while his case is being sorted, though the team is still limited to virtual offseason activity for now.
Baker could still be subject to penalty from the NFL under its personal conduct policy even if he is fully exonerated legally.
Patel has maintained Baker's innocence in a string of splashy media appearances since the case began, saying his client was the victim of a "shakedown" and calling the allegations "complete garbage."
