Gerrit Cole Posts Video Throwing Bullpen Session in Yankee Stadium

Major League Baseball may be in a state of disarray, but Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole is ready to get back to work.

The $324 million starter posted a video to his Instagram account on Monday driving up to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" playing and then cut to him throwing from a mound in the Yankees bullpen in right-center field.

"Baseball state of mind," Cole wrote in the caption.

The 29-year-old right-hander has been documenting some of his workouts in his backyard in his Connecticut mansion, some of which include his wife, Amy – who is due with their first child this month – throwing some breaking balls as well.

His most recent post comes as MLB figures out a schedule and logistics of starting a shortened season after the two sides failed to reach an agreement in a contentious labor dispute regarding player salaries.

The delay to the season, due to the coronavirus pandemic, has prevented Cole from making his highly anticipated debut in pinstripes.

While Cole is allowed to train and throw at Yankee Stadium it is uncertain if games will be played there – and if so, it likely will not include any fans.

Yet, with the reaction Yankees fans had over Cole's latest social media post, there is still some excitement buzzing about him pitching for the Yanks, regardless of whatever the rest of the 2020 MLB season looks like.
