The injuries keep hitting the Giants' backfield.
Giants running back Wayne Gallman departed with a concussion in the team's 28-10 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. He collided with Minnesota's Eric Kendricks on an 11-yard run during the team's first drive of the game. The Giants' running back was taken to the medical tent for further evaluation, before the team initally ruled him questionable to return. Gallman was eventually ruled out of the rest of Sunday's contest.
Injury update - RB Wayne Gallman (concussion) has been ruled out #MINvsNYG
— New York Giants (@Giants) October 6, 2019New York is already at a loss in the backfield. Gallman, who tallied two touchdowns last week, filled in for the injured Saquon Barkley after the latter sustained a high ankle sprain in Week 3. The Giants were trailing 3-0 at the time of Gallman's injury.
Fox Sports' Pam Oliver reported on the broadcast Gallman remained in the team's locker room following the injury.
With Gallman's possible concussion, the Giants are down to two running backs on their depth chart — Jon Hilliman and fullback Eli Penny. Hilliman, the team's third-string RB, totaled 33 yards on 10 carries last week against Washington. He immediately relieved Gallman following his departure.
Hilliman spent his collegiate career at Boston College and Rutgers. Prior to the season, he was signed to the Giants' practice squad. The injuries to Barkley and Gallman created an opportunity for the 23-year-old in the Giants' backfield.
