The Mets dealt another reliever on deadline day, as multiple reports indicate that New York has traded Brooks Raley to the rival Phillies.
Per reports, the Mets are getting back a pair of prospects from Philadelphia, neither of them ranked in the top 25 of Philly's organization. Righty pitcher Luke Gabrysh and outfielder John Spikerman will represent the latest prospects to be collected by New York as David Stearns and company continue the fire sale.
Raley has been one of the better relievers in the Mets bullpen since arriving in Queens. Across parts of four seasons, the lefty pitched to a 2.31 ERA in 128.2 innings of work. But the market for rental relievers does not appear to be robust, leaving the Mets to settle for a pair of prospects that don't carry much hype.
New York has already traded Huascar Brazoban and A.J. Minter from its bullpen, while starting pitcher Freddy Peralta has also been dealt, going to the Rays in a trade announced on Sunday.
Clay Holmes, Luis Robert Jr., and others are expected to be candidates to be dealt before the trade deadline arrives. The Mets, well out of the race at 19 games below .500, have said they expect to compete in 2027, but for now, they are stripping the 2026 club down to the studs.
