The Jets and free agent safety Marqui Christian appeared to reach a contract agreement last week, but now according to WFAN’s Brian Costello, that deal has fallen apart.

March 27, 2020 Although this time Joe Douglas is the team’s general manager, it oddly marks the second consecutive offseason where the Jets agreed to a contract with a free agent, only to have it fall through days later. Last year, it was with linebacker Anthony Barr, who backed out of a multiyear verbal agreement with the Jets and their former general manager Mike Maccagnan, to instead re-sign with the Vikings.
Before they were unable to finalize the contract, Gang Green and Christian landed on a one-year deal for $1.25 million with a chance to become $2 million. With the Rams, Christian was a rotational safety and special teams contributor, playing in all 16 games last season.
After signing with the Jets, Christian was similarly expected to be a third safety behind Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, also playing a role on special teams.
