Jets tight end Chris Herndon has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, the league announced Friday.

He was arrested in June 2018 after being involved in a two-car crash in Rockaway, New Jersey. First-time offenders of the NFL's substance-abuse policy usually receive two-game suspensions, but Herndon was hit with a four-game ban because a woman at the crash scene claimed bodily harm, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
A fourth-round draft pick by the Jets out of the University of Miami in 2018, Herndon was entering the season with high expectations after he caught 39 passes for 502 yards with four touchdowns as a rookie.
