The Jets and cornerback Brian Poole have agreed to a one-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $5 million, WFAN's Brian Costello reported Wednesday. It’s the second straight offseason the cornerback agreed to a one-year deal with Gang Green.
Poole proved to be one of the league’s top slot corners during 2019. In fact, Pro Football Focus graded Poole as the best slot corner last season, making him one of the Jets better value signings by previous general manager Mike Maccagnon. He's also coming off a season in which he recorded his first NFL touchdown, after picking off Raiders quarterback Derek Carr during a blowout victory for the Jets. Poole had the ball snatched by a fan and gained some added attention when he used social media to recover it.

November 24, 2019 Having earned $3.5 million last season, there was some thought that Poole could nearly double his salary with a new multiyear contract. Instead, Poole returns to Gang Green on another team-friendly deal, this one offered by current Jets general manager Joe Douglas.
The 27-year old cornerback is heading into his fifth NFL season, having never missed more than two games in a year. Poole signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2016, and played three seasons in Atlanta before moving to New York for the 2019 season. In 14 games and ten starts last year, Poole made 59 tackles and five passes defended.
