John Oliver is a man of morals, and in his world, that means not rooting for the Yankees.

PIX11 spotted the "Last Week Tonight" host in the Citi Field stands at Sunday's Mets-Tigers game and then interviewed him.

Oliver said when he first moved to the United States from England in 2006, his former boss, Jon Stewart, "made it pretty clear that being a Mets fan was mandatory."

"But also as a real sports fan in England, I knew that it's just not acceptable to come to America and support the Yankees," he said. "It's just not OK. So yeah, hence by default I was a Mets fan because I knew being a Yankee fan was the wrong thing to do morally."

It's not the first time Oliver has taken shots at the Yankees.

In 2006, after Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost tried to defend a new ticket policy by saying that ticket holders in premium locations are sometimes frustrated sitting among people who paid far less for their seats and had never sat in a premium location before, Oliver called the Yankees "the biggest elitist a--holes in all of sports." He then sold tickets behind home plate for 25 cents each to "riffraff" who promised to dress in outrageous costumes such as unicorns, sharks and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
