There was a time last season when some Giants fans were clamoring for Kyle Lauletta to be given a chance to start at quarterback. Now Lauletta is looking for work.
Lauletta was among the players released Saturday as Big Blue cut down its roster to 53 players. The decision means journeyman Alex Tanney has won the Giants' third-string QB job.
Lauletta was a fourth-round draft pick by the Giants last season out of Richmond. He played in two games as a rookie, going 0-of-5 passing with an interception.
His time with the Giants will likely be best remembered for his October arrest after police said he nearly hit a Weehawken, New Jersey, traffic cop with his car while rushing to practice. Lauletta pleaded guilty to a disorderly-persons offense and two traffic violations related to the incident.
Another notable cut by the Giants on Saturday was defensive tackle Chris Slayton, a seventh-round draft pick this year out of Syracuse.
